IPAD: To Be Used By Pilots

The American  FAA has just granted the first approval for the use of iPads instead of paper charts for informing airline pilots while on duty.  Even in an era of GPS and advanced avionics, you still see pilots lugging around 20 pounds or more of charts.Executive Jet tested the iPad in 10 aircraft flown by 55 pilots during 250 flights.

Although this authorisation applies to just one company, it is a milestone for all operators, including major airlines, because it opens the door for them to embrace the iPad. I guess that leaves more time for pilots to knock back a few more inflight drinks and look for all those damn snakes on the plane!!
