DAVID BOWIE: Children's Book

Space Oddity the song is from the album of the same name that was released by David Bowie in 1969, also considered the peak of David's addiction. The synopsis of the story is of a young astronaut  of fame who is sent up in to space only to be cut loose and remains circling the earth. The tracks matter can be construed in many a way,  neither of which is upbeat nor child friendly. Thankfully pushing all the above details to one side you can actually listen to track and turn the pages to book and take it at face value. Telling a  quaint little story that is very down to earth. Hopefully it gets published soon...

ARAB STRAP: Two Cousins 1999

I moved to 'Ol Blighty back in 1996 and upon my arrival was saw many a band, one such band I had the pleasure of seeing was Arab Strap at The Garage. Shortly after this appearance the dynamic due from Scotland went their separate ways. Recently however both Aidan Moffat & Malcom Middleton have come together to create a cover of the Slow Club track 'Two Cousins 1999'....I hope they spend more time together, kind of like Batman and Robin, but less time together than Thelma & Louise.

MUSIC: Alex Ebert featuring RZA

Way cool collaboration between Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (ALEX), and RZA. Ed Sharpe singerAlex Ebert started a solo career and has put together “Truth,” with his trademark whistling. It sounds a little western kind of reminiscent of what RZA put together for the Kill Bill Soundtracks.

THE RAPTURE: How Deep Is Your Love

Still on trend as ever The Rapture release the first single How Deep Is Your Love from the forthcoming album  In The Grace Of Your Love. Arching back to the days of od school house...more Chicago than New York with nice piano loops. I particularly like this video because it is so DIY home made its crazy that someone went to all this effort just to make a video for The Rapture - superfans.

COUPLES THAT DIDN'T WORK: Tom Cruise & Cher

For real, this actually happened. It was the late 1980's, Cher was in her 40's and had recently divorced Sonny Bono. Bono (not the douche from U2 with the glasses) was an older man 11 years Chers senior, the two moved in together when Cher was 17. Newly divorced Cher was on the prowl and looking for young meat, she was what is commonly refereed to these days as a cougar, Tom Cruise was a happy go lucky fun loving scamp and was the talk of the town in Hollywood. Cruise has just appeared in Risky Business and was making Top Gun, he was the TENDER age of 23. The affair lasted for several months and then ended when Tom Cruise left Cher for Mimi Rogers, another older woman. Two things are certain (1) Tom cruise likes crazy taller woman and (2) Cher likes shorter crazy men. Perhaps Cher never really got over Tom Cruise and has forever mourned his loss, maybe 'If I could turn back time' was an ode to Tom and the crazy sexy outfits and cannon straddling were all part of a scheme to lure Tom back?

MOVIES: THE TREE OF LIFE

Every man is faced with the predicament of having to watch a rom com, for some the obstacle is admitting that they actually like watching Julia Roberts & Richard Gere play out their mind numbing escort love story. For others the obstacle faced is telling their loved one that they are incapable of  paying money to see Sarah Jessica -Parker and the other virgina monologues narrate the modern day perils of being a woman in the 21st Century. Thankfully one kind friend has offered to take my girlfriend to see one such movie, Bridesmaids, which leaves me time to watch something a little more interesting - The Tree Of Life.
