ARAB STRAP: Two Cousins 1999
I moved to 'Ol Blighty back in 1996 and upon my arrival was saw many a band, one such band I had the pleasure of seeing was Arab Strap at The Garage. Shortly after this appearance the dynamic due from Scotland went their separate ways. Recently however both Aidan Moffat & Malcom Middleton have come together to create a cover of the Slow Club track 'Two Cousins 1999'....I hope they spend more time together, kind of like Batman and Robin, but less time together than Thelma & Louise.

MUSIC: Alex Ebert featuring RZA
Way cool collaboration between Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (ALEX), and RZA. Ed Sharpe singerAlex Ebert started a solo career and has put together “Truth,” with his trademark whistling. It sounds a little western kind of reminiscent of what RZA put together for the Kill Bill Soundtracks.

THE RAPTURE: How Deep Is Your Love
Still on trend as ever The Rapture release the first single How Deep Is Your Love from the forthcoming album In The Grace Of Your Love. Arching back to the days of od school house...more Chicago than New York with nice piano loops. I particularly like this video because it is so DIY home made its crazy that someone went to all this effort just to make a video for The Rapture - superfans.

TAKE AWAY SHOWS: Thurston Moore
Thurston Moore playing 'Benediction' and 'Blood never lies' in his home in New York City, for the Take Away Shows. A nice little intro that goes a little deeper than the usual shows. NICE.

COOKING: Steve Albini
I like Steve Albini, he makes great music and they was damn good when I saw Shellac a few weekends ago. I also like eating and quite frankly I've been doing a bit too much of that lately, not the good kind. So what's better than reading healthy vegetarian recipes from no other than Mr Albini. Today he made his girlfriend Spring Rolls with kale, leeks, fennel, avocado, orange and mint. Oh - and what a wordsmith, making something so healthy and pleasant slightly Rock & Roll.
"Eating one of these rolls did pretty much exactly what I wanted. The sauce opens your palette, then you taste the greens and feel the bite of the acid, then both the richness of the avocado and the texture and agrodolce effect of the orange kick in, have a party, get drunk on pot-liquor caipirinhas and fuck on the sofa. Finally the minty quality of the herbs lingers in your mouth as a denouement for a while. I just said denouement like it wasn't an asshole thing to do. (v)"

COUPLES THAT DIDN'T WORK: Jackson & Presley
There are three days until the British Royal Wedding but not that long ago there was a Royal Wedding of another kind, the King of Pop and Daughter of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. No one could have ever guessed the unlikely pairing of the two who were wed in 1994 only 20 days after Lisa-Marie Presley divorced her first husband. The two were married for less than two years during the highly publicised trial that Michael faced. Lisa filed for divorce in 1995 shortly after starring in the video for 'You are not alone' in nothing but a tiny white towel. No surprises that it only lasted 19 months, Lisa now lives in Tunbridge Wells in the UK - Rule Britannia!

The only thing more embarrassing than an on stage meltdown....a stupid Australian commentating on what happened and saying it will go down in history. Somehow, I don't think so - MATE.

RECORD STORE DAY: Saturday 16th April
Its the annual Record Store Day tomorrow, the celebration of independent record stores has grown in stature since its origins in 2007. There is a huge amount of special vinyl editions being issued by record labels to mark the event in 2011 with more and more record shops participating. If you're in London I'll be heading down to Rough Trade East or The Vinyl Factory to try and pick up the Joy Division / New Order 12" for Ceremony / In A Lonely Place. Below are a list of other release I think are worth keeping an eye out for or check the link for full list.

IGGY POP: American Idol
You know there are times when I can just let some things slide. Like when Billy Murray made Garfield The Movie, I figured 'its fine Bill' you were amazing in Caddyshack. Then there were all those times I would save my bacon till the very last, only to have my sister steal it straight off my plate. That was fine she was still a great sister and I could move on. There is that old proverb 'once bitten - twice shy' and such is the case with my old mentor Iggy Pop. Iggy, I let it slide when I turned on the TV only to find you pimping out a series of car insurance adverts with a mini puppet of yourself. That was pretty low but still you made Fun House and The Idiot. I still loved you- ONCE BITTEN. Then I saw this video clip of you on American Idol. TWICE SHY.
